5 strategically-important bridges opened in Himachal Pradesh
Defence minister Rajnath Singh dedicated 27 strategically important projects constructed by BRO in four states and two Union Territories to the nation virtually from New Delhi. Five of these projects are based in Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts of Himachal.Two bridges have been constructed at Kothi on Manali-Rohtang highway and two bridges at Patseo and Commander nullah on Keylong-Leh highway. Fifth bridge has been constructed at Kashang in Kinnaur on Hindustan-Tibet road.
BRO is widening the border roads and replacing old bailey bridges with new permanent bridges. While many new bridges have been constructed, many others are under construction.On Tuesday, while the minister inaugurated the 27 defence projects in the country, chief minister Jai Ram Thakur along with BRO officials participated in the inaugural ceremony virtually from Shimla. He expressed his gratitude towards the defence minister and the Centre for the projects.
“The border infrastructure has been strengthened and connectivity to the bordering areas has increased. These bridges on the alternate route to Leh will prove to be of great help to our soldiers posted in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Local people will also get benefit of these bridges and will strengthen the socio-economic relations between people of Lahaul-Spiti and Ladakh,” the CM said.
While Col Pranay Dangwal and executive engineer Pankaj Kumar of project Deepak of BRO attended the virtual ceremony from Shimla, the 38 Border Road Task Force team organised a small function at Kothi to inaugurate four bridges that have been constructed by it at Kothi, Cammander nullah and Patseo on Manali-Leh highway.
The CM said that heavy military vehicles will pass through this route conveniently and the local people will get the facility to transport their farm produce to markets. He congratulated BRO for timely completion of various projects. He said BRO has achieved a significant milestone this year by completing 102 important infrastructural projects.
