Bharti Airtel deploys additional spectrum in 900MHz band in Himachal Pradesh

Airtel said the new spectrum deployment will complement the recently deployed 17.4MHz additional spectrum across the state, in 900, 1800, and 2300 bands to strengthen its network.

Bharti Airtel on Wednesday deployed an additional 9.6MHz of spectrum in the 900MHz spectrum band in Himachal Pradesh to enhance indoor connectivity and boost high-speed data services.

The rationale for deploying spectrum in the 900 band, as per Airtel, is the high propagation property and reach that will facilitate wider network availability and improved data speeds along with better coverage inside homes and buildings in urban and rural areas.

Airtel said the new spectrum deployment will complement the recently deployed 17.4MHz additional spectrum across the state, in 900, 1800, and 2300 bands to strengthen its network.

Manu Sood, Hub CEO – Upper North, Bharti Airtel, said, “The deployment of 9.6 MHz in 900 MHz spectrum band for high-speed data services is in line with our endeavor to deliver deep indoor & wider reach to our customers across Himachal Pradesh. We continue to invest aggressively on network upgrades and new spectrum to deliver world-class service experience at a time when our customers need it the most.”

As per the Sunil Mittal-led telco, it has the largest spectrum bank at 70MHz in Himachal Pradesh with 40MHz in the 2300MHz band, 20MHz in 1800MHz+2100MHz bands, and 10MHz in the 900MHz band.

“Following the pandemic, the adoption of the work from home, online classes, video streaming has witnessed a massive surge. Airtel’s intervention to build additional capacities will go a long way in helping customers stay connected,” the telco said in a statement.

Airtel has also deployed advanced network technologies and tools such as pre-5G Massive MIMO, 4G Advanced and Carrier Aggregation to step up network capacity and coverage.
