Former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal summoned in Kotkapura firing case
Parkash Singh Badal was Punjab's chief minister when police opened fire on protesters on October 14, 2015, killing two and injuring others. Parkash Singh Badal has been summoned to investigate who gave the orders for firing.
The notice read: “You are hereby called upon to appear in person along with relevant record before the SIT on 16/6/2021 at 10.30 a.m at PSPCL rest house at Mohali for investigation in above said cases.”
The Punjab government had set up an SIT, headed by ADGP L K Yadav after the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected the probe of an earlier SIT and gave a clean chit to the Badals.
The verdict had triggered a huge political controversy with a section of MLAs in Punjab targeting their own government including Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Sidhu, who represents Amritsar East in the Punjab assembly, has been attacking his party's government in the state for failing to take action against those involved in the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib in 2015 and subsequent firing incidents in Kotkapura in Faridkot.
