Himachal Pradesh 10-day lockdown from May 7 to May 16; negative RT-PCR test must for incoming travellers
In an attempt to stem the coronavirus cases in Himachal Pradesh, the Jai Ram Thakur governmnet on Wednesday announced that a 10-day lockdown will be imposed from May 7 to May 16. The Himachal Pradesh government announced that a negative RT-PCR test report not older than 72 hours has been made mandatory for those travelling to the state by air, rail and buses.
The decision to impose lockdown from Friday was taken after CM Jai Ram Thakur chaired a high-level review meeting to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the state.The Himachal Pradesh government also declared that the Class 10th exams have been cancelled and students will be promoted to class XI.
In a worrying situation, Himachal Pradesh on May 4 registered the highest single-day spike of 3,824 fresh COVID-19 cases, pushing the caseload to 1,10,945. The hill state witnessed 48 more deaths and the COVID-19 death toll in the state now stands at 1,647 as per the latest official data.
As per Special Health Secretary Nipun Jindal, of the 48 coronavirus deaths, 15 were registered in Kangra, 11 in Solan, 6 in Sirmaur, 4 each in Shimla and Hamirpur, 3 in Una, 2 each in Chamba and Kullu and 1 in Mandi.
